Can you really hide your intent?
If you're trying to, you're up against it. The combination of mirror neurons, micro expressions, body language and tone of voice makes it hard to conceal what is most important to us.
And if our dominant intent is all about us and what we need to achieve... well... it leaks and reeks 🤢
Gandhi captured it well, "The moment there is suspicion about a person's motives, everything [they do] becomes tainted."
This is a challenge for us in high stakes conversations. The pressures we feel, and the demands we face, are like gravity: they pull us into our own world. The effective influencer and negotiator works hard to overcome this and get into the other’s world.
This was one of the challenges - and opportunities - that we explored in the "Purpose Shift" session at this week's FMANZ Summit in Otautahi.
Fight the gravitational pull of your own world. 🚀
