How do you stay present in your conversations?

How do you become more present in a conversation?

This week, in a workshop in Christchurch, we dug into what it takes to cultivate a strong, productive presence in our most important conversations.

Why does this matter? When we’re fully present, leaning into the other person’s world instead of getting caught up in our own, we’re able to bring our best to the table. At the same time, we lower the risk of sending out signals that could trigger unhelpful reactions from the person we’re speaking with.

During a break, one of the participants handed me this card with a strategy he uses to stay present: “Think about where the last thought came from.”

Thanks Mark for sharing this nugget!

It’s been on my mind for the last 24 hours as I’ve been experimenting with this approach

What are you experimenting with?
