Is your team more closed than you realise?

When teams grip too tightly to their own view, they lose sight of what’s possible.
They stop listening.
They stop exploring.
They stop seeing.
Some even cling to their perspective like a life raft, refusing to budge, refusing to explore.
As my Dad is fond of saying, “There’s none so blind as those that will not see.”
It’s a strong line - and it speaks to one of the foundations of curiosity: the willingness to be open.
That’s not to say conviction isn’t important. It is.
We just need to check that our team's conviction isn’t camouflaging incuriosity.
As a leader, you may need to coach your team to see:
👉 Conviction and curiosity aren’t mutually exclusive.
Conviction doesn’t mean we can't explore. We don’t have to let go of a position to consider another. And when we make room for curiosity, we make room for possibility.
Fresh paths and opportunities often lie on the other side of simple questions like:
⏵ “I wonder why…”
⏵ “Out of curiosity, what if…”
⏵ “How might we…”
What might your team discover if they were more curious?
