We kicked off at 6 AM and finished at 10 PM - completing the full Kepler Track in a single day with some of the Meridian Energy generation team from Te Anau. The stunning terrain, great company, and a solid dose of Type 2 fun (😀 ➕ 😮‍💨) made for an unforgettable experience.

Fitting to spend the day burning energy (the renewable kind!) with a team that helps keep the lights on in New Zealand. Meridian is the country’s largest electricity generator, producing around 30% of our power through seven hydro stations and six wind farms.

The trail took us through mountain ridges, forests, lake shores, wetlands and rivers - with some epic views of Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri, the two major lakes that supply New Zealand’s largest hydro station, Manapouri.

As we were wrapping up the day, Brett Horwell (Head of Electricity Supply) arranged a quick detour for a moonlit view of the Te Anau control gates, which regulate water flow between Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri. These gates mark the official starting point of the Kepler Track and connect to the Waiau River system.

A big day on the trail with a team that knows a thing or two about keeping things moving.
