Stop ordering Butter Chicken!

Well, that’s what I’ve been telling myself recently.

I love our local Indian restaurant. The menu? Massive. At least 50 options.

But what do I order every single time?

Yep - old faithful.

Butter Chicken (medium).

Enjoyable and reliable.

Add a Keema Naan, and I’m left with a happy Indian food coma.

But… where’s my sense of adventure? My curiosity?

This hit home for me recently when my mate Pete told me he makes it his practice to order something different every. single. time.

It’s made me realise how easily comfortable routines can smother curiosity. The convenient and reliable path is working for me… but what else might I be missing out on?

Over the last few months, I’ve been speaking with managers about this very thing - the role of curiosity in their teams. And more often than not, there’s a shared desire to break out of “the way we’ve always done things”.

And Curiosity is a key to unlocking those possibilities. As Sir Ken Robinson put it, “Curiosity is the engine of achievement”

But it’s not without its challenges. It asks us to question our Butter Chicken routines - those safe, default choices that quietly trap us in the same old way of thinking and doing… delivering the same old outcomes.

And it reminds me: what if I tried something new?

And a question for you: What Butter Chicken routines could be holding your team back?

That’s a taste of what we explore in the Commercial Curiosity programme.

We all know curiosity is good… but how do we operationalise it?

Commercial Curiosity equips leaders and teams to step off the beaten track - to see differently, ask better, and unlock more value in the relationships and conversations that matter.

Curious? Drop me a message and I’ll share how it works.
