So … as of Monday last week, I’m no longer a lawyer.

It feels a bit odd, I must say, after 20+ years of that title being part of who I am.

The picture is from my Admission to the Bar in 2002, with my Dad as the moving counsel.

And yes - as my kids tell me - “without a beard, you look weird.”

Why the change?

For over a decade, my interests and passions have shaped a new path for me, guiding me away from the law and into training and coaching in leadership, influencing and negotiation.

Despite working full-time in this training and coaching space for a while now, I’ve held onto my practising certificate, thinking it wouldn’t hurt to have a safety net.

But here's the thing: the law is no longer a part of what I want to do. In fact, for many years, it wasn’t the legal work itself that kept me in the profession; it was the clients and colleagues I had the privilege to work with.

Now I continue to work with amazing people AND do work that lights me up. I get to help others grow, lead, and succeed, and that’s a calling that resonates.

So, adios lawyer Stu 👋

To those who have been part of my legal journey over the years, a HUGE thank you for your support and trust.
